How to not get bored while Exercising alone

When we keep exercising alone, we can’t help but get bored. After all, humans are social animals and tend to seek company. Also, during recent times, everyone has realized that exercise is as essential as brushing our teeth. But it’s an undeniable fact that building up an exercise regimen and sticking to it by oneself becomes very hard, very soon. Workout partners are a great idea. But, finding someone with the same level of motivation as yourself is difficult. So here are a few tips to enjoy your solo workout sessions alone.

Own the place where you exercise alone:

Fill up the walls with your favorite quotes. Stick them or paint them, but make it yours. It will be the place where you can become your own fitness coach and accountability partner. The room will become so special and sacred that you would WANT to exercise alone and only alone.

Leave yourself inspiring post-it notes:

Visual reminders of your goal and why you started your fitness regimen will keep you motivated. Identify the places where you are prone to procrastinate exercising- probably your bed, reading area, or the couch in front of the TV. Leave post-it notes as gentle reminders of why you began exercising in the first place. These will help you be your own inspiration.

Befriend your smartwatch while exercising alone:

Fitness apps on smartphones or smartwatches could be your best friends while exercising alone. They even have reminders for you to move if you had been sitting idle for too long. The calories burnt, steps taken, and the time left in a session are the best kind of motivations you can have while exercising by yourself.

Switch up the routine to enjoy exercising alone:

Switching up the routine could breathe new life into your workout regimen. When you get bored walking by yourself, take up Biking and go watch the sunset in a tranquil park. When Biking gets boring, try yoga with gentle background music and lit scented candles. Even try dancing to your favorite songs. The only aim is to keep being active and enjoying the process. You would be surprised when you realize that exercising is the best form of self-care and self-love. And what better way to do it than alone?

A friend in your ear:

While exercising alone, listen to your favorite music, audiobook, or an entertaining or motivational podcast. These are perfect ideas to fill two needs with one deed. During the same workout session, you are strengthening your body and feeding your brain too. Try exercising to the tune of your favorite songs. At the end of the workout session, you will feel more energized and ready to take on the world. And if music isn’t your cup of tea, give your morale a boost by listening to a TED talk or enjoy a story.  After this, You will always want to exercise alone.

Online workout videos:

There are so many workout videos available online for free. Follow the exercise videos that best suit your interest and stamina. You will have different exercise routines every day, which won’t let you get bored while exercising alone.

So, where there’s a will, there’s a way. Don’t let the excuse of not having company hinder you from taking care of yourself. You owe yourself better.

As Swami Vivekananda, the great Indian intellectual, said, “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life- think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.”
